Aid for Mozambique

MAPAL donated 11,500 euros

MAPAL donates to the victims of Hurricane Idai in Mozambique. The company maintains friendly contacts with Vilankulo.

MAPAL is reacting to the natural disaster in Mozambique with great sympathy and a strong desire to help. In mid-March, hurricane “Idai” destroyed the port city of Beira, which has a population of around 500,000. Many people lost their lives, hundreds of thousands lost their homes and livelihoods. “It’s a horrific tragedy and it affects one of the poorest countries in the world,” says Dr Jochen Kress, President of the MAPAL Group, clearly concerned. He continues: “We’re feeling the pain of the country and its inhabitants and see it as a duty and a matter of course to make a contribution to the people in need there.”

Both employees and management staff donate to the cause

At the beginning of April 2019, Dr Jochen Kress and Dr Dieter Kress hand over a donation cheque for 10,000 euros to Siegfried Lingel, President of the German-Mozambican Society. The employees at MAPAL are also involved and have donated 1,500 euros. The corresponding donation cheque is handed over by the Chairman of the Works Council, Frank Khöber.

MAPAL is involved with school and training projects in Vilankulo

MAPAL has friendly contacts in Mozambique and its coastal city of Vilankulo. The company has already launched several school and training projects in the East African country. Connections were made during the course of the city friendship between Aalen and Vilankulo which was established in 2018. The German-Mozambican Society and its president, Honorary Consul General Siegfried Lingel, also from Aalen, was the one who had initiated the city friendship. The company is also involved in the medical faculty of the Catholic University in Beira. The hurricane destroyed most of the university buildings, which were also home to a health centre. They are now to be rebuilt as quickly as possible with the help of donations.
