MAPAL at the AMB in Stuttgart
‘Empower Your Aluminium Machining’ is the motto of MAPAL's presence at this year's AMB trade fair in Stuttgart, where the tool manufacturer will be exhibiting on 390 square metres in Hall 1, Stand C11. The focus will be on expertise in the field of aluminium machining, future-oriented machining solutions for the focus industries and the innovations for 2025.
“With our decades of experience in the design, production and application of tools for aluminium machining, we at MAPAL are the leading technology partner for the machining of aluminium components,” emphasises Jacek Kruszynski, Chief Technology Officer of the MAPAL Group. “In order to offer our customers the optimum machining processes for them, we provide our market, workpiece material and engineering expertise together with our product and application portfolio. The full potential of a machining process can only be realised through the interaction of all influencing factors. MAPAL has stood for this for many years, and we will be demonstrating this at AMB with many impressive examples.”
At the MAPAL stand, the focus will also be on innovative machining solutions for the company’s focus industries: automotive, including solutions for electrically powered vehicles, aerospace, fluid power technology and die and mould making.
Product innovations at AMB - a selection
New connection for quick tool change
The functional principle is simple: the replaceable head is inserted, rotated by 90 degrees and locked in place. This is significantly easier than with a threaded system. The bayonet system achieves high rigidity and good force distribution thanks to the large cylinder face connection. MAPAL is also presenting a new holder design with a ring of cooling channel bores for a higher cooling volume. The coolant is channelled directly to the cutting edges, which increases the service life of the tools and the machining quality. The greater rigidity of the milling heads improves form and position tolerances, process smoothness and tool life.
MAPAL is presenting two initial applications at AMB: a five-edged milling head for homokinetic joints and a form milling cutter for drive shafts.
Spot facing tool with micro-stop cage for aircraft assembly
To protect aeroplanes against lightning strikes, all parts must be connected to each other in an electrically conductive manner. For this purpose, the paint is removed in the area of drill bores during assembly. MAPAL has developed a tool with a patent-pending micro-stop cage for this so-called spot facing, which replaces the conventionally used brushes. The system is also suitable for countersinking, chamfering and deburring.
The new MAPAL spot facing tool, a plug-and-play solution, rotates in a micro-stop cage and only protrudes as far beyond as material is to be removed. With its long service life, one tool can replace several hundred brushes and is therefore not only particularly reliable, but also very economical.
When used for reliable deburring, the tool cutting edges are completely inside the cage, leaving 0.1 mm of the burr. The depth stop is also useful for countersinking or chamfering. The optional dust extraction system is an appreciated feature when machining composites.
